What are Blackheads + How to Extract Blackheads at Home
What are blackheads?
These are bumps with a small dark opening caused by clogged hair follicles. Since the pore is open, exposure to air causes the 'black' appearance.
Where do they usually form?
Usually on the face, especially on the nose, but can also appear on other parts of your body.
back
chest
neck
arms
underarms
Factors that lead to blackheads
Blackheads result from the accumulation of dead skin cells and oil, obstructing the hair follicles.
How to Extract Blackheads at Home
RECOMMENDATION: Do this after using exfoliants for at least a month, so that the blackheads will be easier to extract (which will lessen any chances of scarring / inflammation!)
STEP 1
Properly cleanse the skin and pat dry.
STEP 2
Apply a clay mask for 10-15 minutes. If skin is oilier, leave on for longer but if skin is drier, leave on for shorter.
STEP 3
If possible, steam for a few minutes to soften the skin.
STEP 4
Apply your BHA or AHA exfoliant. Wait 5 to 10 minutes. The blackheads should look a bit more pronounced (as though they are being pushed out of the skin already).
