In most skincare formulas, licorice shows up at very low levels, usually under 1–2% because high-quality licorice extract is expensive and usually treated as a supporting ingredient inside calming or brightening blends. So imagine our surprise when we came across a 20% licorice extract serum! In this formula, licorice isn’t just a sprinkled add-on, it’s the main active! 

This isn’t just any other licorice extract either. A lot of trial and error went into finding a proper, high-quality source. This licorice is sourced from Jirisan, a protected mountainous region in Korea known for medicinal-grade botanicals, and extracted using low-temperature vacuum extraction to help preserve the licorice’s most important bioactive compounds.

Why Licorice? What’s Glycyrrhizin?

Licorice is best known for being anti-inflammatory and tone-soothing, meaning it helps skin tone look more even by reducing irritation and redness. When we say you’re getting bioactive compounds, one of the most important is Glycyrrhizin, licorice’s main active component. It’s well studied for its ability to calm inflammation, reduce redness, soothe irritation, and support healing in inflammation-induced pigmentation (think PIE / red acne marks). This serum is all about lowering inflammation so skin can feel normal again.

Purified Water, Licorice Extract (20%) (brightening), Propanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Allantoin (soothing), Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate (hydrating)

1. Apply after cleansing and toning
2. Or apply it on a cotton pad and use as a toner
3. As a serum, apply a few drops evenly throughout skin and seal in with moisturizer while still slightly damp for extra hydration
4. Or use as your last step, apply multiple layers if preferred and leave on as a moisturizer
